Pompeii tickets: everything you were about to ask
Tickets and booking
Are these official Pompeii tickets?
Yes. These are official tickets for the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, issued in each traveler’s name. They arrive by email before your visit, ready to show on your phone or print.
Do you skip the line?
Yes. You skip the ticket office line because your ticket is already in your inbox. When you arrive, you go straight to the entrance and scan your ticket at the turnstile. Everyone still passes the entrance check, but you only stand in one line instead of two, which feels like a small miracle in August.
Do I need to book Pompeii tickets in advance?
We strongly recommend it. Pompeii is capped at 20,000 entries a day, and the park itself recommends buying in advance to speed up entry. Booking ahead means your date is settled and your morning is spent in Roman streets instead of in a queue.
How much do Pompeii tickets cost?
$36 per adult, with all fees included. Visitors under 18 are free, but each child still needs a ticket reserved in their name, so add them when you book.
How many free child tickets can I book?
Free tickets require at least one paid adult ticket, and you can add up to 4 free tickets per paid ticket. Two adults can bring up to eight young Romans in training. A party larger than eight should write to us.
What does the ticket include?
You get the standard Pompeii Express entry ticket, our most popular choice. It covers the ancient city of Pompeii, with its streets, houses, temples, baths and forum. Any extras are bought at the site.
How do I receive my Pompeii tickets?
By email, before your visit. You can show them on your phone or print them, whichever makes you feel more like an organized traveler.
How far ahead can I book?
You can choose any date within the next six months.
Can I get a refund or change my date?
No. Because your names are tied to your tickets, all sales are final and we are unable to give a refund. Please double check your date and every name before you check out.
Names, ID and children
Does the name on the ticket have to match an ID?
Yes. Pompeii tickets are personal and non-transferable. Bring a passport or photo ID for every traveler, and spell each name exactly as it appears on that document.
Are children free at Pompeii?
Yes. Visitors under 18 are free. Each child still needs a ticket reserved in their name, and free tickets require at least one paid adult ticket, up to 4 free per paid ticket.
Is there a discount for young adults from the EU?
EU citizens aged 18 to 24 qualify for a reduced official fare. Write to us before you book and we will help you sort it out.

Most visitors spend three to four hours seeing the highlights. If you love ruins, you can easily fill a whole day, and Pompeii will not complain.
How do I get to Pompeii from Naples?
Most visitors take the train from Naples to the Pompei Scavi station, a short walk from the Porta Marina entrance. Our Naples to Pompeii guide covers the details. Naples to Pompeii.
What should I bring to Pompeii?
Bring your ticket, an ID that matches it, comfortable shoes, water, a hat and sunscreen. The streets are ancient stone and the shade is limited. What to wear and bring.
